Fairview Hotel Raises over Kshs 500,000 For Save A Child Heart
Fairview Hotel Organized an Event at Fairview whereby all proceeds went to Save A Child Heart Kenya (SACH Kenya). SACH Kenya has saved 8 lives since its founding.
One of SACH’s Success Stories concerns Junior, pictured above:
Junior just turned two years old. He was admitted for evaluation and repair of his congenital heart disease on January 1, 2009. He was accompanied by his Aunt as his mother had just given birth to a healthy little brother. He lives with his extended family, which includes his parents, two other brothers and his grandparents in Nairobi. Junior is diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), a large hole between the two ventricles of the heart and severe obstruction of the blood flow to the arteries of the lungs. On January 14, 2009 Junior underwent a diagnostic catheterization by Dr. Akiva Tamir and his team. This was followed on January 27, 2009 by complete surgical repair by Dr Lior Sasson and his team. After a short recuperation period in hospital and then at the SACH where Junior became a perpetual motion machine, he and his Aunt returned home to Kenya on February 26 2009.
Fairview Hotel Staff Raft the Athi!
730am this morning (Nov 15), 20 Fairview staff members are collected from Fairview. The destination is Savage Wilderness Safari – 1.5 hr north of Nairobi on the Athi River (http://www.whitewaterkenya.com/aboutus.html). After some tea at Savages’ HQ, a bit of training, we get on the water. Before we know it, we are hitting class 4 rapids. Laughter and excitement is in the air, and the Fairview staff are loving it! 3 hrs later, a nyama choma lunch is prepared and stories are flying around the table about Mercy and the monitor lizard, Moses and Kimani and their swim, Hannah and her shoe, the guide and his pretend joke about going the wrong way down the rapids.
What a great day!

Celebrity Chef coming to the Fairview.

Tory McPhail
Whenever the Fairview Executive Chef, Eamon Mullan, visits foreign lands, his mind and his taste buds are open to new cuisine. On a recent trip to the United States Eamon met celebrity chef Tory McPhail, Executive Chef at the world-famous Commander’s Palace in New Orleans. It was a meeting of like minds and of two chefs who aspire to culinary perfection. Never one to miss an opportunity, Eamon invited Tory McPhail to visit Africa, specifically to recreate his unique New Orleans style in the kitchens of the Fairview’s Pango Brasserie.
For a whole week (during lunch and dinner) Tory and his team will be serving the best and freshest of Kenyan fish, meat and other produce, prepared in his distinctive New Orleans style and complemented by his own secret blend of Cajun herbs and spices. Crab, shrimp, oysters, snapper, trout, turkey and quail are just some of the delicacies that will be on the menu. Join us at the Pango Brasserie for a completely new experience in fine dining.
From 28 September to 3 October enjoy the taste of New Orleans by Tory McPhail, Thomas Robey & Christine Nelson exclusively at the Pango Brasserie.
For reservations call: 020-2881330 e-mail pango@fairviewkenya.com or through the operator on: 0722-204 429, 0733-636 563
Tory McPhail is Executive Chef at the award winning Commander’s Palace in New Orleans. He also has his own TV cookery show – Off the Menu – and has co-authored a cookery book, ‘Commander’s Wild Side’, detailing his own recipes using freshly caught fish, birds and game meat. He grew up hunting and fishing on the northwest Pacific coast of the United States and is an ardent lover of the great outdoors. The guest of Eamon Mullan and the Fairview Hotel, Tory will inspire and be inspired, and two great chefs will learn from each other. It’s not to be missed.

What to expect in 2008
We will be renovating the balance of our first class rooms as well as a host of other bedrooms and our main kitchen. During the period of our main kitchen renovation, we will offer a limited version of our Current Pwani Pool Menu. We will also source new conferencing and banqueting chairs and tables and we will install a new Property Management & Accounting System (this will make our reservations replies more efficient and allow us to hopefully offer online reservations). Also, Country Lodge, a hotel company owned by the Fairview, will design another Country Lodge for another location in Nairobi which will open in 2009.
2007 Brought Many New Improvements to Fairview!
2007 was no different to previous years- the Fairview team was busy! We have renovated half of our First Class rooms. These rooms look amazing and offer huge bathrooms. All of these rooms enjoy direct access from a beautiful garden. Also, recognizing the importance of connectivity, Fairview increased the bandwidth of our fibre link to 4 Meg! We have renovated our business centre offering a cleaner look, faster PCs with the latest Operating System. We have built one more conference room that can accommodate 16 in a board room format. We have also built the finest water feature in East Africa which has led to increased demand for Mukutan Café- as we listen to our customers so intently, we have since opened Mukutan Café for dinner and on Sundays! A few other small projects completed include a new staff cafeteria and a Sports Viewing Room for the major sporting events, new linen/pillows for all hotel rooms as well as a redesign of our main car park! Whew! Oh yes, and Pango was ranked the “Best Brasserie in East Africa” and Fairview Hotel won the East Africa versus West Africa Chef’s competition! Finally, our staff has grown to over 230 and our staff canteen had become too small- so we built another one! This reflects our commitment to our Employees – our greatest asset.

Fairview Hotel Staff Hike Ngong Hills- From North to South!
One of the most stunning views in Nairbi is the view of the Great Rift Valley. Well on this cloudy day, the views were non existent as the Fairview Staff embarked on a trip from north to south. Not many smiles until the clouds lifted. At the end of the hike, a bbq awaited the hungry hikers! Vistas of the rift were fabulous accompanied with some great Nyama Choma!

Fairview completes its lounge/dining room refurbishment
Fairview’s old lounge did not reflect the hotel’s brand (the Country Hotel in Town) and its dining room was dated. In 2005, both were completely renovated. The star attraction of the terrific upgrade is the Atrium, which brings light and palms into the center of the hotel. Breakfast in the atrium is a treat!
Fairview introduces First Class Lounge
Fairview’s First Class rooms have been designed to compete with those in the five star market. To complete the experience, Fairview has launched an exclusive lounge for its First Class guests. The lounge is located above the breakfast area and is open between 6:15 a.m and 11:00 p.m. In the Lounge, First Class guests enjoy complimentary access to 2 PCs, a range of papers and magazines, coffee and tea all day long and various other benefits!
Fairview launches a Sushi Bar!
The average length of stay for a Fairview guest is 5 nights. To ensure sufficient dining variety, Fairview has launched a new Sushi Bar. With the best fish supplier, the finest crockery in Nairobi (without a doubt!), and outstanding staff, the Sushi Bar is bound to excel!
Fairview launches a Gourmet Brasserie with its own underground wine-cellar!
Fairview’s guests have always enjoyed Fairview’s various dining alternatives but for the special occasions, Fairview guests have gone elsewhere. Now there is a fine dining option right on your door-step! Aiming to be the classiest lunch and dinner venue, the Pango Brasserie comes complete with its own underground wine cellar for pre-dinner drinks.
Fairview Hires Eamon Mullan
The Fairview Hotel is proud to announce the arrival of Nairobi’s legendary chef, Eamon Mullen. Eamon needs no introduction to the Nairobi restaurant scene. He is a classically trained chef who has worked in some of the world’s most famous hotels including the Mandarin in Bangkok, the Ritz in London and the Norfolk in Nairobi. Eamon and Executive Chef Godfrey Ouda will take the Fairview to new heights of gastronomic delight!
